So long for a while

This will probably be the last time I write here for a while. For a few months anyway. Still no baby - we thought something was happening a few weeks ago when my doctor declared I was already 2cm dilated and the baby was very low. She actually said "you should be prepared to give birth in the next week." Yeah thanks. But really, her warning sent me into hyper gear getting everything ready. And now everything is ready. Then the contractions started and we thought this was it... and then nothing. I guess that's the thing about pregnancy and labour. You don't know how it's going to start. You really can't tell, even if you've had one, two or five kids before, because every time is different. Looks like I'm going to make it to 40 weeks anyway.

The good news is our basement is finished and is beautiful - all the pain and trauma was worth it in the end - and we're already enjoying the extra space. Matthew is especially enjoying tearing around down there (he started walking a few weeks ago - did I mention that?).

So now I just wait and hope... My tummy is large like a balloon and impossibly tight, and I'm getting the looks now when I go out - the slightly fearful looks from people who might imagine I'm about to go into labour at any second and who might be called upon to help out. One man even held the door for me as I was coming out of the 7-11 last week and wished me luck. It's rather tempting to take advantage of my position: I could fake a few contractions and yell loudly "I think the baby's coming!" in the middle of Old Navy. Or if I got caught speeding (not that I speed) I could throw a bottle of water over my seat and tell the officer my waters have broken and I'm on my way to the hospital...

I could but really I don't have the guts.

So I'll just wait it out, until we meet our new little bundle of love...
